C.F. Beck, 85, Died April 12, 1924

Another Veteran Called in Death. . . C.F. Beck, Aged 85 Years, Passes Away at Home on Alton Avenue

C.F. Beck, aged 85 years, of Alston Avenue, a Confederate veteran, died at his home Saturday afternoon at 5:20 o’clock. He had been in declining health for several months. In January he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis and never completely regained his health.

Mr. Beck was born in Granville county, October, 1839. At the age of 22 years he entered the service of the Confederate Army, serving in the 61st regiment, C. company, Hokes division. After leaving the army, he became one of the most progressive farmers of Granville County. In 1892 he was married to Miss Lina Davis Turner, who died in 1901.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. W.H. O’Briant, and four brothers, A.C. Beck, L.L. Beck, S.H. Beck, and G.E. Beck of Creedmoor. The following children survive him: Mrs. F.W. Johnson, Misses Emma Beck, Rachael Beck, Lina Beck; W.G. Beck, and W.H. Beck of Durham.

The funeral will be held at the Edgemont Baptist church, Sunday afternoon, at 4 o’clock with Rev. Charles S. Norville officiating. Interment will be at the family burial ground in Granville County.

Pall bearers will be: C.J. McKaskill, W.B. Rogers, Nick Williams, A.B. Bennett, T.M. Bray, W.M. Upchurch, while floral bearers will be: J.F. Thompson, M.J. Bright, C.B. Roberts, G.G. Hall, C.V. Jacobs and Preston Greene.
