Local and Personal News from Lillington, April 17, 1924

Local News and Personal

Dr. J.H. Withers of Upper Little River township, one of the older residents of Harnett, was here Tuesday and took occasion to place his announcement for the position of county commissioner. Dr. Withers is not a stranger in county affairs, having served his county at various times and in different capacities before. He is well known throughout Harnett and rests confident that his friends will do well be him in the primary.

Sheriff J.W. McArtan is this week entering his announcement for the nomination for Sheriff to succeed himself. He has held this office for the past four years and has formed such a wide acquaintance and friends hip that he is spoken of as the most popular man in the county. “Bill” McArtan, as he is familiarly known, probably knows more people and is better acquainted with the county than any other citizen. His circle of friends will no doubt stand firmly behind him in the primary.

Editor F. Grover Britt of the Dunn Dispatch was here last Saturday in attendance upon the Democratic county convention. Mr. Britt has recently released himself from the obligation of secretary to the Dunn chamber of commerce and is devoting his entire time to The Dispatch, which is showing wonderfully improvement under his editorship.

Messrs. E.T. Ussery and J.M. Edwards of the Atlantic & Western Railway Company, Sanford office, were here Tuesday in the interest of the road.

Circle No. 3 of the Woman’s Auxiliary, Presbyterian church, will meet with Miss Elizabeth Bowen on Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock.
