C.W. Boswell Sentenced to 5 Years in Federal Prison for "White Slavery", June 11, 1925

C.W. Boswell, Fremont farmer and father of four children, was sentence to five years in the Federal Prison at Atlanta in the presence of his wife and children in Raleigh Saturday by Judge L.M. Meekins. The man was charged with leaving his wife while in delicate condition to lure 18-year-old Mabel Strickland f the Cedar Rock High School from her home on the promise of a job and marriage.

Boswell’s wife pleaded for his release. In passing judgment on the man Judge Meekins said “he is lucky not to be shot so full of holes he could not be stuffed with straw.”

Boswell was sentenced under the “White Slave” act. He took the young girl to South Boston, Va. Miss Strickland had not been wronged by Boswell but he had been constant in his attentions upon the girl.
