Dr. Henderson Is Newest Kenan Professor at UNC-CH, June 13, 1925

Dr. Henderson Gets Kenan Professorship. . . Other Promotions of Faculty Members Are Announced by President Chase

Chapel Hill, June 11—Dr. Archibald Henderson, head of the department of mathematics in the University of North Carolina, has been promoted to a Kenan Professorship, it was announced at the University commencement exercises by President Chase.

The promotion carries with it an automatic increase in salary, which means that Dr. Henderson’s stipend will be $6,000. It is recalled that Dr. Henderson recently turned down an offer of the presidency of the University of Oklahoma, at a salary of $10,000. He stayed at the University largely because of his faith in its future, and his friends were happy over the recognition that came to him today.

President Chase also announced other faculty promotions, resignations, leaves and additions. The most serious loss is that of Dr. Edward Greenlaw, head of the graduate school and department of English, who goes to Johns Hopkins. Dr. Oliver Towles goes to New York to become administrative chairman of the department of French in the Washington Square College of New York University.

Edgar W. Knight, professor of rural education, was granted a year’s leave of absence on the Kenan foundation.
