Charlotte, June 11—Ralph Moore, 40-year-old negro, came a-runnin’ to the police station Tuesday morning with a couple of biscuits nicely “buttered” with concentrated lye and his mouth so badly burned that he could hardly talk. After much effort he finally explained to the officers that his wife, Hester, had tried to kill him by poisoning him and that he wanted her arrested.
Ralph swore out a warrant for Hester, and she was promptly arrested charged with attempt to commit murder.
The negro man’s mouth was terribly burned, and he was evidently in great pain. He was not injured other than the local burns in his mouth. Ralph said the lye burned him so badly and so quickly that he didn’t’ get a chance to swallow any of it. He said he had a suspicion for some time that Hester wanted to get rid of him.
