Chief Leslie Yelverton seems to be of the opinion that the installing of the sirens at the two street intersections near the fire station has been the means of reducing the number of alarms.
Do you know we have not had a call since the sirens were installed?” said the Chief yesterday, “and I told my men jokingly that I believed it would be a good idea to install them in different parts of the city as this might be the means of reducing the number of false alarms we have had.”
When answering a call, it has been difficult for the trucks to get out of the business district, having at times to come almost to a complete stop for automobiles and other vehicles. It was solely for this reason that sirens were installed at the post office and the Goldsboro National Bank corner, to give an advance signal for traffic to stop and allow the fire truck to promptly answer the call without any unnecessary delay.
