Farmer Declines City's Type of Prayer Meeting, Sept. 17, 1925

“Don’t Believe in That Kind of Prayer”

Come to the prayer-meeting at the First Presbyterian Church tomorrow afternoon at 4 o’clock said a Gastonia man to a Gaston county farmer this morning. “We are going to pray for rain,” he added.

“No, sir,” said the farmer. “We farmers have been suffering for lack of rain all summer and you didn’t see fit to pray for rain until your cotton mills had to shut down for lack of power. Don’t believe in that kind of prayer.”
