History Club at Salem College Open to All, Sept. 12, 1925

History Club

The picture at the beginning of this article is more than a perfectly ordinary ship; this is the Flying Dutchman, Peter Pan’s sail-boat, a magic, mysterious bark, which transports its passengers as quick as a though from everyday places to lands of adventure and romance. It represents the travels of the History Club, which is a departmental organization for the study of interesting events, past, present and future. Dead doges and lively fascisti, Indian relics and modern politics, the Young Turk movement and the native land of Sir Walter Scott—such is a list of subjects taken at random from the History Club program of the last two years. Speakers from in and out of town who are particularly well versed in their own subjects, visit the club and give interesting and instructive lectures. Nicaragua, Tanganyika Territory, India, Russia, land of snow and socialism, are some of the fascinating countries at which the club’s gallant vessel touches port, guided by gifted and enthusiastic speakers.

The History Club, however, does not depend entirely on outside talent for its programs. From time to time during the year, students take part in the programs, and it is safe to say that these meetings are not less interesting than any others.

This is the one departmental club which is open to everybody, and which is glad to welcome all students who wish to join, no matter what their course or major. Registration day will be held at an early date and the officers and members of the club cordially invite all who wish to join, to do so. If anyone is in doubt about any point and wishes additional information, either Margaret Nichols, President, or Charlotte Sells, Secretary, will be glad to furnish it.

Everyone longs for mystery, romance and adventure, to wander in strange lands and to learn the customs of foreign people; join the crew of the good ship History Club and set sail for the Happy Isles!
