Eva Harris Killed When Car Flipped, Oct. 6, 1925

No. Wilkesboro Lady Meets Death in Crash. . . Another Woman Is Badly Hurt in Auto Accident Near Elkin

Elkin, Oct. 5—Miss Eva Harris of North Wilkesboro was almost instantly killed, while Miss Oma Williams, daughter of E.V. Williams of North Wilkesboro, and a Miss Ferguson of Winston-Salem, were seriously injured when a Nash roadster driven by Miss Williams overturned on the Boone highway near Dennysville church 20 miles east of North Wilkesboro.

The accident occurred between 8 and 9 o’clock this morning, and the injured ladies were brought to the Elkin hospital where it was found that Miss Williams’ injuries are serious, and small hope is held out for her recovery.

The body of Miss Harris was brought here and held awaiting the arrival of relatives.

According to O.D. Benton, who with his brother, Gordon Benton, arrived on the scene within a minute or two after the accident occurred, Miss Harris was dead almost before being removed from the overturned car, her head being crushed almost beyond recognition. Miss Williams is badly bruised about the head and body, while Miss Ferguson escaped with a few minor injuries. Mr. Benton states that eye-witnesses think the car was going at a rather rapid rate along a comparatively straight section of the road when the driver must have lost control of the car which plunged from the road and run through a field for nearly 100 yards before overturning. The car was not damaged to any extent and was brought into Elkin under its own power.
