News reached here Saturday of the tragic death of Mr. Dave Allen Lee of the New Hope section, who shot himself over the right ear with a 22-rifle Friday morning about 6:30 o’clock. He was found on his porch early in the morning by Mr. Seth Lee, who lived with him.
According to information received her, Mr. Lee had been very despondent since the death of his wife about five months ago. On Thursday afternoon he took his 3-year-old daughter, Lessie, and went to the grave of his wife. While there he gave her all the money he had in in his pocket, which amounted to $19.
It was said that he had threatened to kill himself several times in the past. A note addressed to his oldest daughter, Mrs. Ella Lee, was found after the tragic shooting, stating that he was in trouble and giving her directions as to how to carry on his business. It is not thought that his trouble had to do with financial matters because he owed practically nothing. He was about 40 years of age and leaves two children, Mrs. Ella Lee and Lessie Lee.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock and interment took place in the family burying ground near his home.
