Stranger Found Dead in Boarding House Room, June 16, 1926

Unidentified Stranger Found Dead in His Room. . . No Papers or Evidence of Identification Fund on Man at Elkin

Elkin, June 15—An unidentified white man was found dead in his room at a boarding house here today. The county coroner examined the body tonight and said death was due to natural causes.

Giving his name as Riggins, but supplying no initials or address, the man came to Elkin yesterday and applied for lodging at a boarding house operated by C.M. Beamer.

There were no papers about his person to make identification possible. The initials “C.H.R.” were in his hat and the initials under the coat collar were “E.P.D.”

The man is said to have told local citizens yesterday that he came to North Carolina from California and that he had two sons residing in that state. He was apparently about 60 years of age.
