A.S. Francis, rural letter carrier on King Route 1, was among the Danbury visitors Monday.

J.P. Rhodes of Peters Creek township, who was a visitor here Monday, predicts frost Saturday and Sunday nights next. Mr. Rhodes says wells and springs in his section are drying up rapidly. A spring on his place has failed for the first time in 71 years, which he has known it.

John A. Leake was here from Walkerton Saturday.

Rev. John D. Smith will preach here at the Presbyterian church on the 3rd Sunday in October at 11 a.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Twombly of Los Angeles, Cal., are visiting Mrs. Twombly’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Petree in Winston-Salem, and are expected to visit relatives in Stokes this week. Mrs. Twombly was Miss Nell Petree prior to her marriage and resided at Walnut Cove. Mr. Twombly is a professional baseball player and was with the Chicago Nationals for two years.

Newt Stephens of Danbury Route 1 was taken to a Winston-Salem hospital recently and underwent an operation last Saturday. He is reported to be resting very well at this time.

A great many Stokes citizens are attending the Winston-Salem fair and visiting the tobacco market there this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Toby Booth and Mrs. L. J. Young were in Winston-Salem last night to attend the fair.

Miss Mary Taylor, who is teaching in Germantown, spent yesterday here at the meeting of the Federated Clubs of the 6th District at Piedmont Springs.

Mrs. N. Earl Wall and children and brother, Wallace Joyce, of Winston-Salem are visitors here this week.

Dr. and Mrs. R. H. Morefield spent Tuesday in Winston-Salem.
