The show life does not offer much attraction of the young women of Goldsboro, it would seem. The owner of one of the concessions now playing at the County Fair here advertised in The News for a young woman to travel with his show. The ad specified that applicants should give their age, weight, and complexion.
Now in times past, want ads in The News have sold dogs, cats, and pets of all descriptions, have recovered lost automobile tags a hundred miles away; lost rings, lost keys. News want ads have rented houses within two hours after the paper was on the streets; have sold furniture and baby carriages were parents did not anticipate any further use for them.
But for once the ad did not work. There was only one reply to the advertisement for a lady to travel with the show. The applicant called over the telephone, gave her name, address and weight. A few minutes later, however, she called to say she wished her application cancelled.
No, the Goldsboro girls don’t want to be show girls.
