Decoration Day Celebration
Friday next, May
10, will be a banner day for Scotland Neck inasmuch as the Daughters of the
Confederacy, together with the school faculty, are preparing to give an
impressive and entertaining exercise on the campus of the school grounds, to
which not only the veterans but also the entire community is requested to be
present at the flag raising.
The Boy Scouts are
to act as escorts to the veterans and lead the precession to the ground where
the following program will be carried out, after which all the local
automobiles will be requested to carry the veterans, the daughters of the
confederacy and as many of the audience as possible to the cemetery, where the
graves of departed veterans will be decorated.
The ladies of the
town are earnestly requested to contribute as many flowers for the decoration
of the soldiers’ graves as possible and have them at the school house before
the procession.
After the ceremony
of decorating the graves at the cemetery the veterans will be brought back to
the store next to the market recently occupied by McKeel, where dinner will be
served to the veterans.
