Hard Rain Leaves Washout Deep Enough to Bury Horses in Hickory, September 1920

The hard rain yesterday afternoon filled the gutter on Ninth avenue just beyond Clay's foundry and caused a washout under the concrete sidewalk large and deep enough to bury a couple of horses. The water poured over the sidewalk and the ground was sucked out by the swirl and carried off by the flood. The damage is being repaired.
