A telegram to his son, James Atkins Jr. from Little Rock, Ark, early this (Tuesday) morning, tells of the serious condition Monday night of Bishop James Atkins who suffered a stroke of paralysis and is still unconscious. The doctor attending held out no hopes for recovery.
His son, Cashier Hilliard B. Atkins of the Citizens Bank & Trust Co. left on the train at 11:21 this morning to be with his honored father, who was holding a conference in Little Rock. Mrs. Atkins was there with the Bishop who had a heart attack on Thanksgiving Day and held a cabinet meeting while in bed. Bishop Atkins is one of our first citizens and Waynesville is in distress over his serious condition.
