Curtis McKay, negro man of Lillington, who was convicted last December of assault with deadly weapon and assault upon a female, and who has served all but 10 months of his combined sentence for the two offenses, was paroled by Governor Morrison Tuesday. The freedom granted the negro is subject to his good behavior and may be revoked by the governor at any time.
McKay was accused of the slaying of Major Elliott a little over a year ago. He was not confronted by a sufficiency of evidence on the part of the State, however, and the minor charges only were sustained. Town and county officials recommended the parole. McKay was represented at the governor’s office by Mordecai & Salmon, Lillington attorneys.
