Unidentified One-Armed Negro Who Shot Chief of Police W.P. Page, Killed by Jean Merritt, Jan. 14, 1924

Aberdeen, Jan. 10—Chief of Police W.P. Page and an unidentified negro with only one arm are dead here today as a result of a fight put up by the negro when he was arrested early this morning on a charge of burglarizing stores in Raeford. The negro shot Chief Page and was in turn killed by Jean Merritt, a mechanic, who had accompanied the officer.
