John Hickman Commits Suicide, April 8, 1924

John Hickman Kills Himself. . . Dead Man Resided Near Stokes Lane at Ayersville—Found Dead in Corn Crib With His Gun Near Him

Madison, April 8—John Hickman, farmer, aged about 50 years, was found dead in a corn crib at his home in the Ayersville section of this county early Monday morning. By his side was a shotgun containing an empty shell that had recently been fired. The presumption is that Mr. Hickman shot himself.

It is reported that some time Sunday afternoon Hickman had some difficulty with members of his family, and immediately left home. Members of his family, it is said, saw him no more until his body was found in the corn crib.

Early Monday morning members of Hickman’s family were aroused by the sound of a shot and a little later the body was discovered.

The shooting created a good deal of excitement in the vicinity where it occurred. Residents of that section were in town Monday looking for the coroner, under the impression that Dr. J.T. Taylor of this place still filled that place, but the result of the inquest, if any was held, is not known.
