Germanton, April 11—Lonnie Matthew Rutledge, son of A.H. Rutledge, died at the home of his father on Tuesday evening, April 8, at 4 o’clock. He had been ill for a period of several months and had been in a serious condition for the last few weeks. Death was not unexpected. He was born September 26, 1895.
He was a young man just entering life but he was willing and ready to answer his Master’s summons. He was educated at the Germanton high school and was well liked by his teachers and school mates and held a warm place in the affection of the people of the neighborhood in which he lived.
He is survived by his father and five sisters, Mrs. M.F. Caffey of Winston-Salem, Mrs. R.G. Ferguson of Rural Hall, Mrs. F.A. Moser of High Pont, Mrs. W.G. Ferguson of King, and Miss Ethel, who lives at the home; also three brothers, Gideon, Smoak and Fred.
The funeral was held at Friendship Baptist church on Thursday at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. E.L. Smoak of Rural Hall. Despite the very inclement weather a large crowd was present. the pall-bearers were James Crutchfield, King Lewis, Henry Hartgrove, Claud Kapp, John Cromer and Jack Kiser. The flower bearers were Misses Nannie Edwards of Rural Hall, Geneva and Irene Edwards and Annie Sue Cobb of Winston-Salem.
The interment took place in the church graveyard. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mr. Rutledge and family as this is the fifth death to occur in this family in the last few years.
