Walter Bridgeman Caught and Stolen Hudson Returned to J.D. Mauney, Oct. 15, 1925

Auto Thieves Busy

The new Hudson sedan belonging to Mr. J.D. Mauney of Caroleen was stolen from the public square in Forest City while Mrs. Mauney was shopping last Saturday afternoon. Quick work by the police resulted in the capture of Walter Bridgeman, young white man of Shelby, in Charlotte that night and the recovery of the car.

Bridgeman was returned to Rutherfordton jail Sunday by Chief Stalnaker. His preliminary trial was held Tuesday and he was held to criminal court under bond of $1,000, which he failed to give.

A Ford roadster belonging to Mr. Boyce Wilkie, was stolen Friday night.

The Ford touring car belonging to Will Hampton, colored, was badly damaged when he collided with Don Yelton’s Ford roadster, on the Alexander Road Sunday night. Hampton’s car was left by the roadside that night, when thieves stole everything removable from the damaged car. Sam Warren and Lacey Stewart were arrested Monday, charged with the robbery. At the preliminary trial Tuesday, Warren gave bond, while Stewart is being held in jail.
