Manly--Our town was greatly saddened by the death of John McMillian Friday morning at about 9:30 o’clock.
Although Mr. McMillian had been ill for a long time the end was not expected so soon.
Mr. McMillian was in his 75th year. He was born September 20, 1851 at Jackson Springs. He was the son of Daniel and Annie McMllian.
On January 1, 1879 he was married to Miss Fannie Jane Lancaster of Parkton, N.C., who still survives him. They made their home near Galatia Church in Cumberland county after their marriage. A few years later they moved to Raeford. For the past 10 years they have lived in Manly.
Mr. McMillian was a good neighbor and was held in the highest esteem throughout the entire community his knowledge of the Bible was astonishing. His conversations were full of his love for Christ and his belief in our Christian religion. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and also took a great interest in all church affairs. The high esteem in which he was held was shown by the large number of people present at his funeral and by that many beautiful floral offerings. His presence will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife and five children, D.P. McMillian of Craigmont, Idaho; K.A. McMillian of Oakland, California; L.S. McMillian of Raeford, Mrs. R.P. Brown of Victoria, Virginia; and Miss Eoline McMillian of Manly. Two sisters, Miss Flora J. McMillian of Parkton, N.C., and Mrs. W.M. Byrd of Society Hill, S.C.; and two brothers, Messrs. Locke McMillian and Henry McMillian of Parkton, N.C. Five children have gone before him, two died in infancy and three after they were grown.
The funeral services were conducted at the Manly Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock by Rev. M.D. McNeill of Cameron, assisted by Dr. Fairley of Raeford. His body was carried to Raeford and interred in the cemetery thee by the side of his son.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones left behind. Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.
“He that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
Those attending the funeral of John McMillian from afar were William Phillips from State College, Mrs., Ida Pittman, Mrs. Sorrell and children from Durham, I. Lancaster and family and Locke McMillian from Parkton, P McDonald and Mr. Whitlock from Carthage.
