Gets Man

On Monday, Deputy Charlie Sheppard captured Luther Pruitt, wanted by officers here and in South Carolina on whiskey charges, it is said. The capture was made near Grover.

Operated at 73

Mr. Andy B. Wright was operated on at Shelby hospital last Friday at the age of 73. Despite his advanced age, he is getting along nicely, his many friends will be glad to learn.

Made Big Catch

Boyce Dellinger, “Shorty” Long, Dr. Morrison and Mr. Crawford formed a party to Ninety-nine Island Tuesday night on a fishing trip. They report catching 78 fish during the night.

Died in Gaffney

Mrs. Belle Patterson, age 51 years, wife of Asberry Patterson, died Saturday at the Limestone mill, Gaffney, S.C. Mrs. Patterson has two children living at Kings Mountain: Mrs. Mary Harris and E.D. Patterson.

Shattuc in Shelby

Dr. Wm. Shattuc, one of the drivers in the Charlotte Speedway races Monday, passed through Shelby Tuesday en route to California. Shortly after Shuttac passed through by automobile, an airplane passed over carrying race fans back to Knoxville, Tenn.

Kiwanis Speaker

Jos. B. Johnson, lieut.-governor District No. 1, will be the principal speaker Thursday night at the Kiwanis club when Fred Morgan has charge of the program. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Lincolnton club when it sponsored the organization of the Shelby club.

Palm Tree Memorial

Memorial services will be held at Palm Tree Methodist church Sunday, May 16th. Rev. Mr. Burgess of Greensboro will preach in the morning at 11 o’clock. Dinner will be served family style. At 2 o’clock the Kings Mountain quartet will sing and at 3 o’clock Rev. Mr. West of Lincolnton will preach.

Will Close 10 to 11

Practically all business houses and banks will be closed each morning from 10 to 11 o’clock on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to allow the business men and their customers to attend the Dixon-Thacker meeting which is underway at he Presbyterian church. Housewives ae asked to do their shopping before the 10 o’clock hour.

To Appear July 8th

Fred P Abbott, development agent of the Seaboard Air Line Railway, says the advertisement pertaining to Cleveland county as one of the banner farm counties in North Carolina, will appear in the Manufacturers Record on July 8th. The Seaboard is paying for this advertisement as it considers Cleveland one of the best sections through which its line runs.

Off to Meeting

T.J. Babington, George Washburn, J.D. Lineberger are this week attending the annual meeting of the Grand Chapter and Grand Commandery of Masons, which are meeting in Wilmington. These gentlemen took with them invitations from the Mayor, Kiwanis Club and Chamber of commerce, inviting these splendid organizations to hold their net meeting in Shelby next May.

Under Operation

Bynum Weathers Jr., 2-year-old son of Attorney and Mrs. Bynum E. Weathers, recently underwent an operation for mastoiditis at the Charlotte eye, ear, nose and throat hospital in Charlotte. While under ether, his tonsils and adenoids were also removed. This is the second operation for mastoid trouble, and the child is doing nicely. Mrs. Weathers spent several days at Charlotte, returning home Monday night.
