Order at Last
The Record never
doubted for one minute that the Germans would sign the peace treaty. Human
beings naturally love order, and the Germans have been an orderly people. That
is their history. Great warriors also they have been, but they lived under a
system of government for a thousand years that made them fighters and under
conditions which seemed to them to make fighting necessary. The older order has
passed in Germany, and we are hopeful that there is only a small percentage of
the wild fellows in that country now. The Record is even optimistic enough to
believe that the Russians, now dominated by a set of wild, impracticable
brigands, will evolve a system of government that will work satisfactorily and
that in a few years the whole world will be at peace again, except for the spasmodic
outbreaks which have occurred from time to time in various parts of the world.
We are to have order, because normal human beings prefer order to chaos.
