Will Raise $6 Million
to Fight Tuberculosis
Atlantic City, N.J., June 19—In order to make possible the
greatest crusade against the white plague ever conducted in this country,
delegates representing 1,500 state and local anti-tuberculosis associations
here decided to launch a whirlwind Red Cross Christmas seal sale in December
for the purpose of raising $6,000,000.
The money raised will be used in 1920 to carry on an
intensive fight for the prevention and control of the disease, the great
increase of which in the United States was startlingly revealed, first by the
draft examinations of millions of men and later by the strain of war. This will
be the first national anti-tuberculosis fund-raising campaign held in this
country since 1917. The drive will open during the first week of December and
will carry through until the first of the new year.
