Physical Examination
for Teachers
The Secretary of State is sending out to school
Superintendents copies of an act passed by the recent legislature prohibiting
any person from teaching in the public schools of North Carolina after October
1, 1919, without securing a certificate from a reputable physician each year
stating that they have not an open or active infectious case of tuberculosis or
any other contagious disease.
Certificates for this purpose, Known as “Teachers’ Health
Certificates” are furnished by the State for distribution.
The act imposed as a penalty a fine of $50 or imprisonment
of not more than 30 days upon any teacher failing to comply with the
requirements of the act.
