War is not what it used to be. Science has made it
unutterably destructive and would make the next one annihilating. To escape the
destruction of civilization, there must be no more war. The League of Nations
points the way to peace; such a league is a compact against war. The world
needs a compact of that kind and the American people will register approval of
the efforts of President Wilson to secure it. The same, but it should not be a
bird of American eagle might not be the prey.
