Miss Eloise Dunn returned from Holland, Va., last night
after spending the week end with her brother.
Mrs. J.L. Josey is reported better today, although she did
not rest very well during the night.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDaniel were called to Norfolk on account
of the illness of Mrs. McDaniel’s aunt.
Mr. W.M. Steptoe is reported ill in bed this morning
although the doctor does not consider his case as serious.
Messrs. Ennis Bryan and William Edwards arrived yesterday
from Wake Forest to spend the week prior to examinations.
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Madry, Misses Mary Shields and Mildred
Futrell and Mr. Leon Madry motored to Greenville last evening to attend the
commencement.
Mr. R.H. Gray was smitten with a headache last evening that
required the attention of Dr. Clark who recommended him staying in bed today
and resting. He is not in serious shape.
The Juniors of the Scotland Neck Graded School will entertain
the Seniors tonight at 8:30 at the home of Mrs. E.T. Whitehead on Depot Street.
Death of Mrs.
Margaret Lovegrove
Yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock the life of Mrs. Margaret
Lovegrove, wife of the late William Lovegrove, fluttered out after a short
illness, death taking place at the old home near Nahala.
The deceased lady was born, raised and lived the 72 years of
her life in Halifax county and for nearly half a century she has been a member
of Lawrence’s Primitive Baptist Church.
The close surviving members of the family are four daughters
and five sons: Mesdames J.L. Wimbornes, E.E. Walker and Laura Keeter of Halifax
county and Mrs. J.R. Staton of Rocky Mount; Messrs. L.H. Sankey and Moody
Lovegrove of Halifax county; J.E. Lovegrove of Portsmouth, Va., and B.F.
Lovegrove of Rocky Mount.
The funeral services will be conducted at the home this
afternoon and the procession will start from the house for Lawrence’s grave
yard at 4 o’clock, old time.
