Miss Lillian Harrell, who has been visiting at the home of
Dr. and Mrs. L.A. Nowell, left last Thursday.
M. Orion Montague, who is now working on the Steamer Guide,
spent the week-end with his parents Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Montague.
Mr. and Mrs. Coy Smithrick of Merry Hill spent Saturday and
Sunday at the home of Mr. J.H. Myers.
Mr. Carl Liverman spent Sunday in our town.
The heavy rains of late prevented the crowds attending the
Chowan Beach last week.
Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Phelps and daughter Lucie were visitors in
town Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Sessoms and children of Portsmouth are
now visiting their parents in town.
Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell and children of Ahoskie spent
Sunday in town at the home of Mr. Charlie Callis.
The B.Y.P.U. rendered a fine program on Sunday evening. The
subject discussed, “Where is the sould between death and resurrection.” The music
was unusually good, Mr. K.T. Raynor presided at the organ.
Dr. D.B. Mizell of Windsor is now in town prepared to do all
kinds of dental work.
Misses Berniece Mathews and May Bell Perry from Windsor are
visiting Miss Nell Deans.
Mr. Clyde Northcott spend last week in Hurlock, Md.
Miss Amanda Baker, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs.
C.B. Morris for the last two weeks, has returned home.
Mr. Jordan Yates, who has returned from France, is working
in the garage for Mr. J.S. Deans.
Mrs. Edward Jones and daughter Fannie and Mrs. Jennie Askew
of Windsor were visitors in the home of Mrs. D.R. Britton’s last Monday.

Mr. John Finch Earley was a caller in town Sunday afternoon.
Miss Annie Gray Stokes of Windsor was the guest of Miss
Hattie Tayloe last Thursday.
Mr. Reuben Jordan of Norfolk visited his brother J.E. Jordan
Saturday and Sunday.
Miss Lizzie Pruden of Windsor visited her sister Mrs. W.S.
Tayloe a few days this week.
Mr. Walter Burden of Aulander passed through town last
Thursday.
Mr. Charlie Holloman of Port Norfolk is out on a visit with
friends and relatives.

Miss Effie Sawyer of Belcross is spending some time with
Miss Janie Parker.
Mr. A.G. Otwell and Misses Janie Brown and Pauline Eley
returned on Saturday from Chapel Hill where they have been attending the summer
school.
Miss Louise Holland of Winston-Salem, who was visiting Miss
Janie Parker, received a message on Saturday to leave for her home at once
owing to the illness of her mother.
Mr. Joe Peele and Mr. D.E. Roberts of Rich Square were
callers in the home of Mrs. Mary Brown on Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. W.J. Griffin spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. J.T.
Chitty.
Mr. Asa Hollowell of Aulander was a caller in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. H.U. Grim on Sunday afternoon.
Horton’s Personals
Crops are badly damaged by the heavy rainfalls of recent
weeks.
We are sorry to report Miss Roxie Minton very sick at this
writing. We hope for her a speedy recovery. She is badly missed at Sunday
school, she being one of our teachers.
Mr. Z.V. Greene and mother Mrs. W.G. Greene spent a short
while in Ahoskie last Monday.
Rev. A. Mills of Jackson will aid pastor Long in a series of
meetings here, beginning the second Sunday in August.
After spending five weeks in a Norfolk hospital, Mrs. S.W.
Greene returned home last Thursday much improved, although she is quite feeble
yet.
Mrs. G.D. Greene has recently undergone an operation in St.
Christopher’s Hospital, Norfolk, Va. We certainly hope she will soon be home to
her family and loved ones.
