What a Wilson County
Man Thinks of the Service
Editor Wilson Times,
Wilson, N.C.
Dear Sir:
The following is submitted in the hopes that it may possess
some local value:
Herman F. Boykin, son of W.F. Boykin of Simms, North
Carolina, formerly employed by William Ruffin as carpenter in Bailey, North
Carolina, was accepted for enlistment in the United States army at Raleigh on
August 13th, 1919.
Young Boykin has spent two years in college and has had a
taste of army life while in the S.A.T.C. at Atlantic Christian college, was
pleased with the military life so he enlisted for three years in the Air
Service.
In the words of the young recruit, we have his reasons for
enlisting: “I like the service and I believe that the army offers a man of my
age a good chance to learn a trade which will assure me a good position after I
leave the service.”
Boykin made no mistake in choosing the Air Service as that
branch is at present time training men in over 40 different trades and specialties,
and has at the present time the largest educational institution along
vocational lines in the world.
