Wilson Tobacco Houses Closed Indefinitely, Dec. 7, 1920
By the Associated Press, Wilson, N.C., Dec. 7—As a result of the low prices being paid for tobacco, all warehouses controlled by the Warehousemen’s Association of North Caroline will be closed on December 17 and will remain closed indefinitely.
Practically every big tobacco warehouse in eastern North Carolina is affiliated with the association. The association will meet in Wilson on January 5 to discuss the situation and to determine when to reopen.
The price of tobacco has gradually declined since the opening of the market last September. On the opening day the price averaged 20 cents and on closing day was slightly over 18 cents.
