Last week, while the fire raged in New Bern, the High School team from this city was engaged in playhing football at Raleigh.
This week, some of the players are doing guard duty as members of the local battery unit while others are engaged in relief work. They have been forced to remain awake during all hours of the night. The coaches of the team also have been doing their part in helping to relieve the distress of the fire victims. Needless to say, the thought of football is far from the minds of any of New Bern’s population, players included.
Because of this fact, local school authorities have wired Asheville asking for a postponement of the game. They have explained to the Asheville authorities the situation which has arisen in New Bern, and they believe that a postponement until next week can be arranged.
