With the exception of the three paid drivers, whose names appear at the bottom, and the chief, whose yearly salary is $100, this is the list of Elizabeth City’s volunteer fire department, whose services are yours for the protection of your home in case of fire. They receive no money for their many hours of hard and disagreeable work during the year, and oftentimes, few thanks.
