Armistice Day to Feature Airplanes, Fiddle Contest, Brass Band, Nov. 10, 1923

Two Air Planes Expected Saturday, November 10th—Big Crowd

The Legion held their regular November meeting Monday night in the Commercial Club rooms. Prof. Sisk brought a message for the Red Cross asking the assistance of the Legion and Auxiliary in putting on a roll call.

Two judges for fiddlers contest were named: T.S. Bryan of Traphill and Geo. E. Blevins of Springfield. The following prizes to be offered:

Best fiddler, $10

Second best fiddler, $5

Best banjo picker, $10

Second best banjo picker, $5

Best string band, $15

Second best string band, $5

All prizes in gold.

All business houses are requested to decorate on Friday.

Gold star parents of Wilkes and adjoining counties are to have special honor—requested to call at information tent on B. street and get ribbons. Legionaries to have full admittance to fiddlers contest and foot ball game.

All veterans of World war, Civil war and Spanish American war must obtain ribbons at information tent on B street before being admitted to dinner.

Civil war veterans admitted free to everything.

The town of North Wilkesboro is expecting the largest crowd that has ever assembled together at this place in the history of the town next Saturday, November 10th, to celebrate Armistice Day. Two big air planes will make flights all day long. One of the airmen was shot down while in an air battle in Germany. These two planes will give an exhibition of an air battle.

The program of the day will interspersed with brass band music.

Veterans of the civil war and Spanish-American war veterans are extended a cordial welcome to participate. Dinner will be served to all the soldiers by the auxiliary unit and committees from the various churches of North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro.

The fire works at night at the old fair grounds will be an elaborate affair. The time for the display of the fire works will be early so as to give young and old an opportunity to see this wonderful and beautiful sight.

The occasion will be bigger and more elaborate than every before. The town will dress up. Thousands of folks are expected here on the 10th.
