Memorial Day Poppies to be Sold May 30, 1924

Poppy Sale May 30. . . For Benefit of Orphans of World War Veterans

Poppies will be sold in Chapel Hill Friday of next week, May 30, for the benefit of the orphans of men who lost their lives in the world war.

Young women of the village have volunteered to conduct the sale. Not only will they post themselves at the post-office, the banks, the restaurants, and other central points, but they will also go through the residential districts.

This is an enterprise launched by the Chapel Hill post of the American Legion, with Carl Durham in charge. Last year the Legion sold more than 500 poppies at 10 cents apiece, and it is hoped that a still greater number will be disposed of this year. The buyers are expected to wear the red flowers during the day.
