$10,000 Fire Loss at Southern Power Company's New Plant, May 4, 1926

Fire Causes $10,000 Loss at Dukeville

Spencer, May 4—The first fire in the history of the new town of Dukeville, being built by the Southern Power company near Spencer, occurred late Monday night destroying the building that houses the concrete mixer and plant. The fire was of unknown origin and burned rapidly while the local fire fighting apparatus was entirely inadequate to check the flames.

The loss is variously estimated around $10,000. Early today a force of men set to work rebuilding a temporary concrete plant to be used in completing the big power plant now under way. The fire, it is said, will cause only a slight delay in the work.
