Laughlin's Lose Roof of Brand New Home in Miami Hurricane, Oct. 8, 1926

Narrowly Escaped Death in Florida. . . Storm Demolished House Out of Which Former Elizabeth City Girl Had Just Moved

Mrs. G. F. Laughlin of West Palm Beach, Fla., who was formerly Miss Bessie Cobb of this city, writes to her mother, Mrs. George Cubb in this city, of the narrow escape of her household in the recent Florida tornado.

Mr. and Mrs. Laughlin had just moved into their new home. The storm took the roof off their new home and utterly demolished the house from which they had just moved.

But that isn’t the end of their troubles. Mrs. Laughlin writes that it is impossible to hire a carpenter to put a new roof on their home so they are living under the stars until Mr. Laughlin, who has never done a carpenter’s job in his life, can build his own roof. The millionaire class in Florida is using all available labor and paying enormous wages.
