Major J.H. Shuford Returned to Hickory, May 24, 1919

From the Hickory Daily Record, May 24, 1919

Major Shuford Is Back Home Again

Major J.H. Shuford, who arrived at New York last Saturday from overseas, arrived in Hickory this morning after spending nearly a week at Camp Dix, where he obtained his discharge from the army. He was in charge of three hospitals in Kerhuon France, and entered the service as a captain in Dr. J.W. Long’s hospital unit early in the war.

Major or Dr. Shuford closed his hospital here when he enlisted and it will be some time before it is opened again. Much work is yet to be done renovating and employing a staff of nurses.

Major Shuford’s friends were mighty glad to welcome him home. He was looking unusually well.
