Americans Celebrate Return of Troops, Government Asks for 8,000 New Soldiers to Send to Russia, May 6, 1919

War Department Wants 8,000 Replacement Soldiers to Substitute for Those on the Archangel Front. . . Men of Military Experience Desired

Washington, May 6—Orders were issued today by the War Department for the recruiting of 8,000 men to serve as replacement troops for the American soldiers in Siberia. The replacement troops will be forwarded from San Francisco and will be sent in units of 500 each as rapidly as they can be assembled.

The American forces in Siberia now number 8,000 men, and the department intends to bring all of them home as soon as they can be replaced.
