Honors
Corporal Otho C. Holland of Middlesex of the 6th
regiment of Marines returns from France with distinguished bravery and the
order signed by General Petain of the French army states that in the Champagne
sector from the 3rd to the 9th of October 1918 he
captured an enemy machine gun and with this gun and eight boxes of ammunition,
which he also captured, inflicted heavy losses on the enemy at their counter
attack and captured a number of the enemy.
Corporal Holland was in a number of engagements and gives an
interesting description of the fighting in the battles of Chateau-Thierry,
Soissons, St. Mihiel, and in the Argonne.
In recognition of this bravery, the young man was presented
and wears the Croix du Guerre and on this palm, which denotes a higher honor
than the Croix.
