Explosion in
Greensboro Sends Flow Burning Oil Down the Street, Damages Buildings, Burns a Man to Death, and Starts a Fire. . . Southern Bridge Across Lithia Street
Burned
Greensboro, N.C., May 3—Fire from an explosion in the
warehouse of the Texas Oil company early today had not been checked at noon. A
flood of burning oil down the streets jeopardized the neighboring buildings.
The body of a man burned to a state of non-recognition was blown across Lithia
street. Whether he was an employee of the Company or a passerby was not
ascertained.
Buildings over the city were damaged by the explosion and
bricks from chimneys blown off and window lights knocked out. The railroad
bridge of the Southern railroad over Lithia was burned.

Oil Company
Greensboro, May 3, 3 p.m.—One life was lost in the fire
which destroyed the storage plant of the Texas Oil Company on the main line of
the southern Railroad shortly before 7 o’clock today. Only one body, burned
beyond recognition, was discovered near the Lithia Street bridge of the
Southern Railroad. All employees of the Texas company have been accounted for.

Fatal Explosion in
Georgia
Valdostia, Ga., May 3—An explosion of dust in a barn at
Troupeville near here late yesterday resulted in the death of three small sons
of John Watson, a well known farmer. The boys were in the barn shelling corn,
when one of them said I am going to burn you all up, and struck a match. An
explosion followed which resulted in their death.

Terrific Explosion in
Wilkesbarre Mine
Wilkesbarre, Pa., May 3—A terrific explosion occurred today
in the Nottingham mine of the Lehigh and Wilkesbarre Coal Company, which killed
a number of miners and imprisoned some 50, according to reports, in the fire
which followed.
Three bodies have been recovered and 50 more are believed to
be dead.
Fifty Men Overcome by
Gas
Wilkesbarre, Pa., May 3, 3 p.m.—Fifty men were overcome by
gas, but none of these were killed.
