Miraculous Escape When Freight Train Hit His Ford

While crossing the Norfolk Southern Rail Road tracks on Parsonage Street, a Ford truck driving by Ellwood Weatherly of the firm of W.H. Weatherly & Company, was run down by a Norfolk Southern freight train. The collision was so sudden and unexpected that Mr. Weatherly found himself pinned in the truck before he could jump. The truck was carried several hundred yards by the moving freight and reduced to a complete wreck, with Mr. Weatherly entangled in it. And he escaped with a few bruises and some minor scratches about the face. A Negro on the rear of the truck saved himself by jumping when the train struck.
