55,000 Clothing Workers Not Working, Nov. 30, 1920
New York, Nov. 30—The clothing manufacturers’ association of New York announced here that negotiations between employers and members of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America are ended until the union members agree to the principle of piecework in the industry. Notice to this effect, it was stated, has been served upon Sidney Hillman, general president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers.
The controversy between the manufacturers and union members began when the old contract expired August 16 and about 55,000 clothing workers are now reported idle.
