Hickory Crime Wave Broken, Says Editor, Jan. 10, 1921
There is one wave that we are hearing less about these days—the crime wave—and the courts and public opinion have helped the officers to break it. The Record believes that the courts generally do the right thing, and it is sure judge and jurors in every instance try to reach an honest verdict. Failures are due to the errors which even judges are likely to make. The lawless element will take charge of any community unless the citizens show an interest in their own affairs and it is good to know that the people of the country have been aroused on this one danger.
