William Morris, Now Crippled, Awarded $2,000 by Jury, Jan. 14, 1921

William Morris, who crushed his ankle at the plant of Kramer Brothers company in June a year ago, was allowed damages of $2,000 by a Pasquotank county jury Tuesday night. Morris had been in the employ of that company about 20 years when his ankle was crushed in an accident, leaving him permanently injured. The company paid his doctor’s bills, which amounted to about $400 and paid him a cash bonus of $350, and Morris signed a paper waiving claim to further damages. Later Morris brought suit for $5,000 damages. The finding of the jury was that Morris signed the release, but also found the release was procured by fraud. They further found his injury due to the negligence of the company, but that his own negligence contributed to the injury of which he now complains, and allowed him only $2,000 of his claim.
