Mr. Joe F. Lawrence passed away on Monday, May 22nd, 1922, at the home of his son, Mr. W.E. Lawrence, with whom he has made his home for many years. He was born on March 1st, 1847, hence was 75 years of age at his death.
Mr. Lawrence enlisted in the Confederate Army when in his teens. At the close of the war he returned home, and since has lived in and near Enfield. He had been a great sufferer for several years and was not physically able to stand an operation. All was done for him that could e done by the loving hands of his sons and daughters. During his last illness he seemed to be perfectly resigned to God’s will, and said he would soon be home with his dear companion, who preceded him some 12 years ago. He said he loved everybody, and wanted everybody to love him.
The burial took place in the old Lawrence burying ground near Dawsons on Tuesday morning, May 23rd, the Rev. D.R. Williams, pastor of the Methodist Protestant Church, conducting the burial services in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.
Mr. Lawrence is survived by four sons and two daughters: Messrs. W.E. Lawrence, T.D. Lawrence, J.E. Lawrence, and P.A. Lawrence, and Mrs. R.L. Simmons and Mrs. Charlie Parks.
