Ferguson Cleared as Suspect in Robbery of Bank of Summerfield, June 15, 1922

Ferguson Clear in Summerfield Bank. . . Not the Man Who Held Them Up, Say Simpson and Hoskins. Out on Bond

Developments in the Bank of Summerfield robbery case include the exoneration of Grady Ferguson of Randleman of any connection with the robbery.

Howard Simpson, cashier of the bank, and B.H. Hoskins a director, going to see Ferguson, who was taken to Randolph County jail after being brought from New Orleans, charged with robbing the Bank of Randleman, declared that he is not the man who held them up in the Bank of Summerfield and took $1,500.

Ferguson was released from the Randolph County jail Tuesday night on bond of $2000. He will be tried at the July term of court at Asheboro. He is charged with holding up Claude Newlin, teller of the Bank of Randleman on May 24 and taking about $500.

Gus Matthews of High Point, held upon suspicion that he may have been connected with the robbery of the Bank of Summerfield on May 29(?) was to be given a hearing this afternoon before Magistrate D.H. Collins.
