Cape Fear Gravel Pits to Open in Lillington, June 13, 1922
The Cape Fear Gravel Pits, Inc., is a new concern for Lillington. It has purchased the Edward S. Smith tract of 152 acres and will mine and sell gravel for road-building and other purposes. Its authorized capital is $100,000. Its incorporators are A.L. Kenyon of Princeton, N.J.; C.W. Lacy of Wilmington; H.R. DeLeggett of Lillington. The company first will cut and mill the timber now on the tract and then begin the digging and marketing of gravel. Lillington gravel is said to be the best in the country, and it is expected that the new concern will develop into one of the most important enterprises in the county.
