On his return from Greensboro to Oxford last Saturday, someone driving a Ford car passed Mr. J.R. Sneed on the National Highway a few miles north of Durham at a break-neck speed. Mr. Sneed was able to keep within sight of the car until it reached Little River, where it disappeared.
Quickening his pace, Mr. Sneed hurried to the bridge to see what had happened and found two men floundering in the water.
The car, driven by the two men, missed the bridge and plunged headlong into the swollen river and settled on the bottom in its natural position. The two men knew how to swim and the water lifted them out of the open car.
When last seen, the two men were sitting on the banks of the stream, drying their clothing and waiting for the water to recede so that they could locate the exact position of the car.
