Hubert Cole, 20-year-old West Durham boy who slightly wounded his sweetheart, Christine Rowland, 17, near the Erwin Mill Friday morning, is expected to be released under bonds totaling $200, according to Sheriff John A. Harward. The youth will be required to give bond of $100 for assault and battery with a deadly weapon and $100 for carrying a concealed weapon. Hearing for the case is set for December 24.
It is stated that the girl has forgiven the boy for his thoughtless action and that Cole has repeatedly told of his regret. Jealousy is declared to have prompted the shooting.
The girl, according to physicians, is only slightly wounded and will recover speedily. The bullet of a .32 caliber revolver slightly grazed the girl’s side, it is stated.
